Choosing entertainment for a corporate event

Corporate entertainment is usually judged on whether it was enjoyable. It should be judged on whether it did the job the event was booked for.

Decide what the event is for

A networking reception, a staff reward evening and a client hospitality dinner have different goals, and entertainment that suits one can actively undermine another.

If the aim is people talking to each other, anything that makes the room sit down and face forward is working against you. If the aim is a shared reward moment, the opposite is true.

For networking and receptions

Close up magic is structurally useful here. It forms small temporary groups, gives strangers a shared reaction to discuss, and leaves those conversations running after the performer has moved on.

It also fills the awkward arrival window, which is where most receptions lose momentum before they have started.

For dinners and awards evenings

Table to table magic between courses keeps a seated room engaged through a long service. A stage performance then works as a defined slot in the running order, usually after the meal and around speeches or awards.

Practical questions to settle early

Who coordinates the running order on the day, and will the performer speak to them directly? What is the agreed arrival time relative to the slot? Is the material appropriate for a mixed audience of staff, clients and senior management?

The last one matters more than people expect. Entertainment that embarrasses a colleague in front of clients is remembered for the wrong reason.

Budget in realistic terms

For context, close up magic starts at £150 for one hour and £750 for all day coverage, with stage magic from £350 and £900 all day. For a conference or full-day event, all day coverage is usually better value than several separate short bookings.

Start from the outcome you need and the format follows. Describe the agenda when you enquire and the recommendation will be a practical one.
